Yes, definitely that is one of the major reasons for the darkness under your eyes, you may be amazed to know that there are other factors which contribute to dark and puffy under eyes such as genetics, lack of moisture, allergies, bone structure and thin skin.

Unless you have a picture-perfect skin, you manage to get minimum 8 hours of sleep everyday, drink plenty of water and don't have to undergo any kind of stress or tension, you have to deal with those dark circles. You might have tried all the home remedies, the best of facial serums available in the market, but all in vain. Those dark circles seem to be on your face forever. But don't get disheartened as there is still a ray of hope. Yes, Vitamin C can be a game-changer here. Vitamin C is loaded with properties which will help to minimize the appearance of dark circles by hydrating and brightening the skin under your eyes and pumps life back into your dreaded panda looking eyes.

What Does Vitamin C Do To Your Skin?

Vitamin C is also known as Ascorbic Acid, is one of the best and most effective remedies in treating dark circles. This is because it is loaded with the goodness of antioxidants which help with skin lightening, boost collagen production thereby erasing fine lines under your eyes, restoring the elasticity and the resilience power of the skin under eyes. Vitamin C serum is considered to be the skin-friendly vitamin as it effectively tackles all your major skincare issues like dark spots , blemishes, dull and ageing skin. It has been used for ages to achieve more vibrant, radiant and youthful-looking skin. It is like a magic wand which can be used to solve all your skincare issues and gives a brighter, clearer and an even skin tone.

How Does Vitamin C Reduce The Dark Circles And Puffiness?

L-Ascorbic Acid or Vitamin C is well known for its under-eye benefits. Vitamin C in its purest form is very unstable and tends to lose its efficiency when exposed to light and air. Thus, Vitamin C is considered to be highly potent which can cause skin irritation in high doses. Hence, a stable derivative of Vitamin C i. e SAP (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate) is used in most of the under-eye serums. The potency level of SAP is 55% as compared to L-Ascorbic Acid which is 100%. The best part of it is that Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate does not get oxidized nor does it irritate the skin and your skin can get all the benefits of Vitamin C slowly without irritating the delicate area around your eyes.

The skin around your eyes is very thin and delicate and you should handle it with care. The first signs of ageing such as fine lines and puffiness start appearing around your eye which tends to make your face look dull and lifeless. A healthy eye is a mirror to your healthy lifestyle. The unhealthy eating and drinking habits, hectic lifestyles can reflect in your eyes. The skin around your eyes is thin and delicate with no underlying fat, no sebaceous glands and susceptible to dryness and sagging. Hence your under eyes tend to become puffy, dark and fine lines start appearing.

First of all, you need to figure out the problem and start working on it. Eating food rich in Vitamin C such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits and green veggies are a good way to start. Including food rich in Vitamin C in your daily diet helps to improve the immune system and helps the body function optimally thus, reducing dark circles under your eyes. Vitamin C is rich in antioxidants which fight free radicals responsible for causing wrinkles, fines lines and also protects your skin against sun damage which is also responsible for causing dark circles. Vitamin C is known to boost collagen production which increases the elasticity of your skin, helps to strengthen blood vessels and increase blood circulation which can also help to get rid of dark circles to a large extent.

For topical application, you have an array of Vitamin C creams, serums and masks available in the market to uplift your under-eye area. Vitamin C is a storehouse of antioxidants which very efficiently brightens, hydrates and pumps life into your under-eye area. Vitamin C serum enriched with Kakadu Plum (a highest known source of Vitamin C) and hyaluronic acid is available in the market which can be a sure shot remedy for all your under-eye problems.

Method of Application- It is very important that you combine undereye creams or serums with gentle circular massage as well, for the quick absorption of the formula into your skin and you get the desired result quickly. A pea-sized amount will suffice the whole area, just use tapping or pressing movement to apply the formula under your eyes. Avoid the upper lid while applying, instead cover the brow bone and under eye area to harness the benefits of your undereye cream. This should be the last step of your skincare regime.

DIY Vitamin C Serum

Let's have a hands-on this simple and easy DIY Vitamin C serum. All you need is pure Vitamin C powder, if not available you can also use Celin tablets. Just 2 tablets would be enough to make a 5% potent Vitamin C serum. Always keep in mind that you do not pick the chewable Vitamin C tablets as it contains sugar and glucose.

Ingredients

  • Pure Vitamin C Powder- ¼ teaspoon
  • Rose Water- 2 teaspoon
  • Glycerine- 1 teaspoon
  • Vitamin E- 1 capsule
  • Small amber coloured pump bottle

Method

Take Vitamin C powder in an amber coloured pump bottle and add Rosewater. Mix well until Vitamin C powder completely dissolves in rose water. To this mixture add glycerine and Vitamin E oil by rupturing the capsule. Vitamin E oil keeps Vitamin C stable for long. Mix all the ingredients well and store it in a cool and dark place.

Note- This serum should be made in small quantities and use it within a period of maximum one week as Vitamin C when exposed to light and air can lose its efficiency. Next week prepare the fresh batch.

Use

Take a small quantity of Vitamin C serum and apply on your cleansed skin before going to bed. Leave it overnight. Always follow the thumb rule- Cleanse, Tone, Apply Vitamin C serum and then moisturize. Regular use of this Vitamin C serum can help you get rid of those stubborn and annoying dark circles. Sensitive skin types may experience a slight tingling during the first few applications. If it happens then you can start by using this serum every alternate night, until your skin gets adjusted to it.

Potential Side Effects

Although there are no major side effects of using Vitamin C serum, it is always advisable to do a patch test if you are using it for the first time. Wait for 24 hours to check for any allergic reactions. Always use Vitamin C serum in moderation as high doses of it can irritate your skin and your under-eye skin is quite thin and delicate.

Vitamin C is considered to be the most promising and all in one fix for all your skincare issues. It effectively lightens dark circles, blemishes, hyperpigmentation, scars and collagen production increases the elasticity of your skin, decreases wrinkles and fine line making it glow with health. Consistency is the key to achieve the maximum result. Regular use of Vitamin C serum to treat your under eyes can be fruitful and within few days you will be able to get rid of dark circles and puffiness around your eyes. A good under eye serum accompanied with a healthy diet (rich in Vitamin C) and a healthy lifestyle will definitely help you to get rid of those dreaded panda eyes.
